Milwaukee Road had many steel refrigerated box cars after the second world war as wood cars were being replaced in favor of their steel counterparts. Several manufacturers made these cars including General American and Pullman Standard, and the variations in Milwaukee Road paint schemes varied greatly. Most of the box cars carried URTX markings as they were leased from Union Refrigerator Transit Lines.
